Office of the President of India

  • The Vice-President is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the members of both the Houses of_the Parliament in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of a single transferable vote
  • The election to the vacancy of the office of the Vice-President is completed before the expiry of his term.
  • An election to the vacancy of the office of the Vice-President occurring due to death, resignation or removal shall be held as soon as possible after the occurrence of the vacancy, and the person elected to fill the vacancy shall be entitled to hold office for the full term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office.
  • There is no mandatory provision, like in case of the President, to hold the election within six months.
