The exam is aimed to design for those individuals who wants to teach students from grades preschool through 12 with behavioral and emotional disorders. One hour will be provided, to complete 50 multiple choice questions. There will be 40 questions pertaining to service delivery to students with behavioral and emotional disorders and 10 questions pertaining to influences on education of children with behavioral and emotional disorders.
Service Delivery to Students with Behavioral and Emotional Disorders: This section will focus on classroom management, curriculum and instruction, student placement, assessment, professional roles and conceptual approaches. Questions pertaining to the learning environment will cover documentation and communication with parents and others, lighting, seating, grouping students, consistency, attitudes, positive interactions with students, behavioral interventions and behavior management programs. The curriculum and instruction questions will cover data collection, IEP/ITP development, goals, objectives and, modification of standard educational practices to accommodate the disabled students. Your knowledge of student assessment, selection of age appropriate activities, planning and sequencing instructional activities, modeling, motivation, reinforcement, and task analysis will be tested in this section. Questions pertaining to cooperative learning, and applied behavioral analysis will be included in this section. The questions pertaining to student placement will cover integration and inclusion, main streaming, developing an IEP that encompasses cultural preferences, adaption of instructional materials, working with classroom personnel, school personnel, and evaluation and grading. The assessment will cover selection and modification of assessments for disabled students, interpretation of assessment results and, utilizing assessment data for IEP development. Questions pertaining to professional roles and issues will cover student advocacy, teaching parents how to be child advocates, student self advocacy, the teachers role in abuse and neglect cases, the impact of teachers attitudes on student performance, working with social and health services, and professional literature. The questions pertaining to conceptual approaches will cover cognitive, sociological, behavioral, medical and psychodynamic approaches.
Influences on Education of Children with Behavioral and Emotional Disorders: This section will focus on terminology pertaining to behavioral disorders and the relationship between impulsivity, hyperactivity, and distractibility. Questions pertaining to causation and prevention of behavioral disorders, cultural influences and genetic factors will be included in this section. Your knowledge of maladaptive behavioral features such as delinquency, conduct disorders, aggression, substance abuse, eating disorders and self injurious behavior will be tested in this section. Questions pertaining to psychological disorders like depression, anxiety, psychoses and neuroses will also be covered.
