Hydrological Cycle or Water Cycle - In 9 Simple Stages

Hydrological Cycle

Dr. Manishika Jain explains the Hydrological Cycle in 9 Simple Stages:

1. Evaporation

2. Transportation

3. Sublimation & Deposition

4. Condensation

5. Precipitation

6. Interception

7. Percolation

8. Infiltration

9. Run-Off

  • Begins with the evaporation of water.
  • Evaporation increases the amount of moisture in air immediately above the surface.
  • Water vapor condenses to clouds.
  • Moisture returns to the surface as precipitation.
    • Evaporate back into the atmosphere
    • Penetrate the surface and become groundwater. Groundwater seeps into the oceans, rivers, and streams
    • Released back into the atmosphere through transpiration.
    • Runoff, empties into lakes, rivers and streams to the oceans
