- India produces four types of iron ores Haematite, Magnetite, Limonite and Siderite.
- Total iron ore reserves2,158.3 crore tonnes.

Areas
- Jharkhand: Noamundi and Gua mines and other areas in Sighbhum, near Daltonganj in Plamau. Also found in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh and Santhal Pargana Districts.
- Karnataka Bellary, Chitradurga, (Bababudan hills) Chikmaglur, Bijapur, Dharwad, Tumkur, Uttar Kannada, Dakshin Kannad and Shimoga.
- 0rissa: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
- Andhra Pradesh: Anantpur, Khammam, Krishna, Kurnool, Cuddapah. and Nellore.
- Maharashtra: Chandrapur and Ratnagiri. Also in Bhandara.
- Rajasthan: Bhilwara, Udaipur and Jhunjhunu.
- Tamil Nadu: Salem, North Arcot, Nilgiris and Dharmapuri.
