  • PM Manmohan Singh inaugurated the Sipat Thermal Power Plant on September 20,2013.

  • Jharkhand State Electricity Board is a Government of Jharkhand enterprise, entrusted with the generation and distribution of electrical power in the state of Jharkhand, India.
  • It suffers a loss of more than ₹ 1,000 crore (USD 200mn) every year.
  • In 2011, it was revealed that in the last ten years, as much as ₹ 80 crores in outstanding dues to various units had been waived.
  • For example, ex-Chief Minister Madhu Koda, in prison for graft since 2008, waived of a ₹ 10 crore bill from a company owned by fellow minister Vinod Sinha, who is also in jail on graft charges.

  • Patrata Thermal Power Station is a coal-based thermal power plant located near Patratu town in Ramgarh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand.
  • The Jharkhand State Electricity Board operates the power plant.
  • It has an installed capacity of 840 MW.
  • As of April 2015, there is plan to float a joint venture company with National Thermal Power Corporation holding 74% and Jharkhand government holding 24% .
  • The new company will set up a 4000 MW (800 MW × 5) thermal power plant which will utilize 1500 acres out of 6300 acres available with the existing power plant.

  • Bandel Thermal Power Station is a thermal power plant situated on the western bank of Hooghly River, Tribeni town in the Indian state of West Bengal, 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) off the Grand Trunk Road, NH2.
  • The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) operates the power plant.
  • At the time of its commissioning in 1983, its Unit-5 was first of its kind in Eastern India and fifth in India.
  • The power station has 5 units with a total installed capacity of 450 MW (4x60,1x210 MW) .

  • The power station is located at Begusarai district, Bihar, India.
  • Barauni thermal power station in Bihar came into existence in association with the Russian collaboration and came into operation in the year 1962.

  • Kanti Thermal Power Station also known as George Fernandes Thermal Power Plant Station (GFTPS) is located in Kanti, Muzaffarpur, 90 km away from Patna, the capital of the Indian state of Bihar.
  • The majority shares of the Joint Venture Company are held by NTPC, with NTPC 64.57% and BSEB 35.43% .
  • The plant has not been functional since 2003; however, three successful trial runs have paved way for commercial production of Electricity by the end of 2013.
  • In November 2013, Nitish Kumar said that another new 500MW power plant would be set up at Kanti.
  • The first 195 MW unit was commissioned by BHEL at the 2x195 MW plant in March 2015.
  • The second unit of the 2 x 195 MW was commissioned on 13 June 2016.

  • Guwahati, April 11 – The State government has urged the Union Power Ministry to facilitate coal linkage for the Margherita 660-MW Super Critical
  • Thermal Power Station and the 60-MW Chandrapur Thermal Power Station from the remaining deposits of coal from Margherita and⟋or other locations of the North Eastern Coal Fields (NECL) after meeting the requirements of the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project.
