Public Accounts Committee

  • First set up 1921 by the provisions of Government of India Act 1919.
  • 22 total members (15 loksabha/7 Rajya Sabha)
  • President elect the members through the principle of Proportional representation
  • Chairman of the committee is appointed by the Speaker
  • It examines annual audit report of CAG
  • It examines public expenditure from legal and formal aspects

Estimates Committee

  • Setup in 1921
  • In 1950 Estimate committee was established on recommendation on John Mathai.
  • It examines the budget and public expenditure
  • Suggest administrative reforms to improve economy
  • Suggest policy for efficiency and economy in administration
  • Examine the limits of policy and its estimates
  • Suggest forms to present estimates
  • It cannot questions parliaments policy and its recommendations are advisory

Committee on Public Undertakings

  • Created on the recommendations of Krishna Menon Committee in 1964.
  • It examines reports of Public Undertakings and report of CAG on it.
  • Examines the affairs of Public Undertakings
  • Exercise functions allotted to it by the speaker
  • Cannot examine more than 12 public Undertakings in a year
  • It cannot deal with technical matters

Departmental Standing Committees

  • In 1993 Seventeen Departmental related Standing Committees were set up.
