Introduction on WWW

  • It stands for World Wide Web.
  • It refers to the collection of information that is accessible on internet.
  • The information can be in form of text, voice, audio, video, images etc.
  • The page where entire data or information displayed is called as web page.
  • The collection of web pages is called as website.
  • The websites are displayed with the help of URL i.e.. name/domain like: www.abc.com
  • The URL (uniform resource locator) can be used on web browser.
  • The web is very useful service on internet.
  • The WWW is a system of interlinked, hypertext documents accessed via the internet.
  • With the help of web browser a user can view the web pages (website) .

History of WWW

  • It was created in 1989 by the Englishman named as Sir Tim Berners Lee and the Belgian Robert Caililau working at CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research) – Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • On 30 April 1993, CERN put the WWW software in the public domain. Later, CERN made a release available with an open licence, a more sure way to maximize its dissemination.
  • Tim moved from CERN to the Massachusetts institute of Technology in 1994 to found the W.W.W Consortium (W3C) , an international community devoted to developing open web standards.
  • Established as a common language for sharing information on computers.

Web Browser

A web browser displays a web document and enables users to access web documents. It is a software application used for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the W.W.W.

Web Server

This is a program tat waits patiently for the browser to request a web page. The servers looks for the requested information, retrieves it and send it to the browser or sends an error message if the file is not found which is requested by the client or user.

URL & Search Engine

URL

URL stands for uniform resource locator. These are the web addresses. The resource locator is an addressing system.

Search Engine

To retrieve the relevant information in the form of text, images and videos, we need a special software called a search engine. When we do not need the exact URL of the website then we can type the required name of the website on search engine. It will search same type of websites containing same query string.

Web 2.0

It is the second generation of W.W.W. It refers to the features of the W.W.W.that enables people to collaborate and share the information online. There are various tools and platforms that are provided by this service.
