  • 5% weightage to “Outreach and Inclusivity”

  • 10% weightage to “Perception”

Rankings for (2018)

  • Overall – IISc, IIT M, IIT B

  • University – IISc, JNU & BHU

  • Colleges – Miranda House Delhi, St. Stephen’s Delhi

  • Pharmacy – NIPER Mohali

  • Law – National Law School of India Bengaluru

  • Medical – AIIMS, PGIMER, CMC

  • Architecture – IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee

  • Management – IIM A, IIM B, IIM C

  • Engineering – IIT M, IIT B, IIT D

National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) does institutional assessment & accreditation.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) does programmatic accreditation of technical programs & courses.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)

MHRD was created on Sep. 1985.

MHRD works thru 2 departments:

  • Department of School Education & Literacy

  • Department of Higher Education

Objectives of Ministry:

  • Formulate NPE & ensure that it is implemented in letter and spirit

  • Pay special attention to disadvantaged groups like the poor, females & minorities

  • Provide financial help in form of scholarships, loan subsidy, etc. to students from deprived sections of society.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA)

  • NBA was established by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education).

  • NBA came into existence from 7th January 2010.

  • Objective is Assurance of Quality & Relevance of Education, especially of programs in professional & technical disciplines thru mechanism of accreditation of programs offered by technical institutions

Institute of Eminence:

  • Scheme of Institutions of Eminence was rolled out by UGC.

  • Aims to help 20 higher education (10 public and 10 private) institutions from country break into top 500 global rankings in 10 years.

  • Target for Institutions of Eminence will be to break into top 100 bracket in one internationally reputed ranking framework in 10 years.

  • Only higher education institutions, currently placed in top 500 of global rankings or top 50 of NIRF, are eligible to apply for eminence tag.

  • Private Institutions of Eminence can come up as greenfield ventures provided sponsoring organisation submits convincing perspective plan for 15 years.
