Objective of Course “Master of Mathematics Education”

  • To move away from conventional pedagogy of teaching mathematics especially at school level & to include methods of facilitating learning such as storytelling, projects, group work & participative learning.

  • To use technology as significant aid in learning.

  • To impart knowledge of some basic concepts & principles of discipline.

  • To establish inter-disciplinarity b/w mathematics & other subjects from Humanities & Social Sciences.

  • To encourage collaborative learning thru group activities & hands-on learning.

  • To learn to apply mathematics to real life situations & help in problem solving.

Methodology for Master of Mathematics Education

  • For initial curriculum in 2012-14, degree program will largely draw upon & combine papers/ courses already on offer at University of Delhi (DU) at Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) & Central Institute of Education (CIE) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) w/ view to giving students some theoretical inputs & substantial hands-on experience in knowledge-making.

  • Degree course will reflect transdisciplinary approach & will promote fresh viewpoints, making learning & teaching process joyful & productive.

  • Teaching may adopt several platforms including classroom, virtual & project based learning.

  • Interactive methods of instruction will be encouraged.

  • Students will take combinations of courses at both Jamia Millia Islamia & at University of Delhi.

  • Courses available on-line or part time will also be permitted.

  • Projects will be given vital importance.

  • Mentors shall play key role in group project work. Mentors will be carefully selected for their expertise in relevant areas.

  • They may be from both within partner institutions & outside.
