  • Monsoon: India, Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, South China, North Australia

  • Maritime: C. America, West Indies, NE Australia, Philippines, E. Africa, Madagascar, Guinea & East Brazil

Climate – Tropical Monsoon

  • Landmass is heated in summer in N.H. (more than 15 than normal) – Low pressure develops in Indian mainland & HP in Australia

  • Seasonal reversal of winds

Seasons – Tropical Monsoon

  • Cool Dry (Oct to Feb)

  • Hot Dry (March to June)

  • Rainy (June to Sept)

  • Retreating Monsoon – after mid Sept (NE monsoon)

Climate – Tropical Marine

  • On east coast of tropical lands

  • Receive rain from trade winds all time

  • Favorable for habitation

  • Has severe tropical cyclones

Vegetation

  • Deciduous – dry period & shed leaves

  • In heavy rainfall – forest – open and less luxuriant than equatorial

  • Summer – thorny scrub or savanna – scattered tree & tall grass

  • Timber: durable hardwood – teak – Burma (3/4th of world production)

Agriculture

  • Dense population – small farms – man is land hungry, high density

  • Tropical agriculture – rainfall 7 large labour force – farming – India, China, SE Asia, East Brazil & West Indies

  • Wet Paddy
