National Dairy Research Institute, an institute established especially for attaining excellence in dairy technology, was set up in 1923. The headquarters of the institute was taken to Karnal in 1989. The institute was conferred the status of deemed university for developing and enhancing the academic program for development of human resource in the field of white revolution. The institute is also recognized by ICAR (Institute of center of advanced studies) for strengthening the research and training wing.

B. Tech (Dairy Technology)

The degree program provides rigorous and accurate training in processing of milk and its products, quality control maintenance and technical aspects of dairy processing equipments.

Duration: 4 years.

Semester system is followed in which one academic year comprises two semesters, each of about 18 weeks duration. One year practical training is provided to students at Model Dairy Plant located within Institute's campus.


Candidates passing 10 + 2 or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English from a recognized Board with a minimum of 60% marks as aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for admission.

Post Graduate Program in Dairy Technology

Duration: 2 years for candidates with graduation in Dairy Technology, and 3 years for students with BSc in other spheres like food technology, pure science Eligibility: B Tech degree in Dairy Technology with 60% marks or graduation in pure science, food technology, etc with 60% marks.
