National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra
Initially known as Regional Engineering College (REC), Kurukshetra and initiated in 1962, The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra is now one of the most popular and renowned engineering college in the country. The institute got the status of Deemed University from the University Grants Commission (UGG) Act in the year 2002, thereby, acquiring renaming itself as National Institute of Technology. It is assisted financially for educational purposes by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.
Academic activities incorporated in the year 1965 − 1966 with mere 120 students enrolling for the engineering course of five years duration. From 1985 − 1986 onwards, the BSc degrees were coverted to B. Tech degrees for 4 years which is continued until now.
The institute believes in inculcating values of life in its students besides making them attain excellence in studies. Research activities, intensive study and innovative methods of teaching are the tools used for getting upto the mark with their aim. The institute offers qualitative engineering courses and programs at the undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels. Admissions are considered from all over India overcoming all the taboos of caste, creed and colour to inculcate a feeling of national integration, patriotism and brotherhood among the students.

Admission procedure at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra
Entrance procedure is similar as in all engineering institutes in the country. Admission in the undergraduate course is undertaken on the basis of scores in entrance examination, known as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. For admission to post-graduate M. Tech. Course, scores in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) are considered.
- Hostels: The institute comprises in total 8 hostels, of which five are alloted to male undergraduate students, one is alloted to males undergoing the M. Tech courses and two are meant for female undergraduate and post graduate students.
- Health Center: The institute has a health center which is well equipped with all modern amenities. It looks after the medical needs of the students.
- Hospital: Medicines are provided and treatment is done free of cost to all students, teaching and non-teaching staffs of the institute.
