Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

Owing its existence long before India got independence, Punjab Engineering College (PEC) retained its present name and status in 1954. This became possible when the college shifted its base from Pakistan to Chandigarh. The institute was recognised by the name of Punjab College of Engineering & Technology before partition. It got renamed as East Punjab Engineering College after 1947. It got its present name when UGC granted it the status of Deemed University in 2004. Starting with merely two departments of engineering of civil & mechanical, this institute continuously made efforts to expand its arena, therby adding a big list of courses on its board.

The institute provides the best state-of-art infrastructure to its students which includes numerous libraries and laboratories for various engineering departments. The huge campus, which is extended to acres and acres of land is divided into several areas like hostels, Main College Building, Administration Block and Residential Complex for staff and faculty. The present Director of PEC is Dr. Vijay Gupta.

Admission Procedures at Punjab Engineering College

  • Ranks obtained by the students in AIEEE form a base for admission to a UG course. The admission to a particular branch, among the many branches of PEC, is decided by the Joint Admission Committee.

  • Valid GATE scores and a minimum of 60% marks in graduation are pre-requisites for getting admission to PG course in PEC. Students who did not clear GATE or did not attempt it are given admission after they clear a written test and interview conducted by the college.

  • Admissions to Ph. D courses does not adheres to any particular month or duration for admission. It can be granted at any time during the entire year, given that candidates clear written test and interviews (in some cases) conducted by the college.
