The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati is a Deemed University in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. Situated at the base of the Tirumala Hills, it is on the North Eastern side of the Sri. Venkateswara University. The land for constructing the building of the Vidyapeetha was donated by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Former President of India, eminent philosopher and educationist Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stone for the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha on 4th January, 1962. On 26th August, 1989 the Vidyapeetha formally became a Deemed University.
The ancient ‘Gurukul’ system of teaching is followed in the Vidyapeetha and serious and dedicated efforts are made to revive the Vedic language of Sanskrit. The increase in the number of students in this institution bears testimony to this. The most encouraging aspect is that even Muslim and SC⟋ST students are enrolling in this seat of learning to learn Sanskrit which is considered to be language for the upper classes in our society.
The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, which has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a A + grade has courses in English and Computer Science besides Sanskrit. It is a very popular and reputed institute for Sanskrit learning in India.
The motto of the Vidyapeetha ‘Tamosoma Jyotirgamaya’ or lead me unto light from darkness encapsulates the entire purpose and objective with which this institute was set up:
