Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports is one of the leading institutions under the Faculty of Education, University of Delhi, established in August, 1987 by the Delhi Administration.

Presently it offers the courses in physical education recognized by National Council of Teacher Education (N. C. T. E.). The institute is known for the well-qualified staff, well stocked library with latest books and research journals.


Admission to B. Sc (Physical Education, Health Education & Sports). B. P. Ed. And M. P. Ed. Programme will be done based on Written Tests and Interview which comprise of the following components of the cumulative merit list (aimed to promote the transparency at the time of the display of final merit lists, the split marks secured by the candidates in various components of the Admission Test may also be displayed on the Notice Board):

  1. Written Test: 60 Marks (Objective Type Test 50 Marks + Comprehension and/or Expression Test 10 Marks)
  2. Sports Proficiency Test-Sports Representation (Sports representation score will be determined as described in th Appendix-I for M. P. Ed. And B. P. And Appendix-II for B. Sc.): 10 Marks
  3. Sports Proficiency Test-Playing Ability Test: 15 Marks
  4. Interview: 15 Marks
  5. Physical Fitness Test: Qualifying
  6. Medical Examination: Qualifying

Eligibility Criteria at Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports

  • To apply for the undergraduate courses the candidate's age should be between 17 to 20 years.

  • If candidate is seeking admission to BSc (PE, HE & Sports) course, he must have passed Class XII Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, or other equivalent examination with at least 45% marks in the aggregate.

  • One can also apply for the course if he has a certificate in Physical Education.

  • If the candidate has a good sports record in the past, he is eligible to apply for the courses.

Application Procedure at Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports

  • The application form and the prospectus will be sold from the 2nd week of May to the 1st week of June, on working days at the institute.

  • The cost of the form and the prospectus is Rs. 100 if you collect it from the counter in cash. To get the form by post a DD for Rs. 135 has to be drawn in favor of the Principal, IGIPESS payable at New Delhi.

  • The forms will be sold till the 3rd week of June.

  • Appearance in Entrance is must for every candidate.

  • The foreign students have to collect information from the office of the Foreign Students Advisor of DU.
