National Recruitment Agency to Conduct Exams for All Government Jobs- Budget 2020

National Recruitment Agency (NRA) will conduct computer based Common Eligibility Test for recruitment to non-gazetted posts. Note the following:

  • Around 2.5 crore aspirants for selection to around 1.25 lakh government jobs will now appear for a single online common eligibility test (CET)
  • Test scores will be valid for three years for any non-gazetted post.
  • Computer-based CET would be done through a test centre set up in every district
  • Separate CETs for graduate, Class XII-pass and matriculate-level candidates for non-technical posts encompassing Staff Selection Commission (SSC) , Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) .
  • CET score would be valid for three years from date of declaration of the result
  • Each candidate will have two additional chances to improve their score, and the best of all scores will be considered.
  • Score would be made available to the candidate, individual recruitment agencies, to states for state government jobs (on cost-sharing basis) and to private sector to consider eligible candidates

Need for National Recruitment Agency

This will remove the need for aspirants to sit for multiple different examinations for various non-gazetted government jobs- saving duplication of work, allowing transparent screening system, and having single examination and screening authority.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of NRA

The National Recruitment Agency will be independent authority like NTA⟋National Testing Agency for holding computer based Common Eligibility Test for recruitment to non-gazetted posts.

NRA Only for Non-Gazetted Posts

Group B, Group C and Group D government jobs fall under the category of Non-Gazetted Jobs- Such jobs do not provide the official to use or issue an official stamp on behalf of the Government of India.

National Recruitment Agency Will Recruit for These Jobs

Exams conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission) , PCSs, Railways, RBI, CBI etc. for screening aspirants for Non-Gazetted Government Jobs would not fall under the ambit of NRA. Examples include

  • SSC CGL Examination
  • RRB Clerk
  • SSC CHSL Examination
  • SSC MTS Examination
  • SSC JHT Examination
  • Railway Group D Recruitment Exams
  • Railway NTPC Recruitment Examination
