Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) conducted on 8^{th} January 2017 in a single slot across multiple centers. The test will be conducted on 47centers in India. Difficulty level of paper is easier than last year. Around 90, 000 candidates have appeared XAT-2017. Candidates give this exam for the admissions in XLRI Jamshedpur. The test was divided into two papers:

Verbal & Logical Ability:
- Level of these questions was of medium to difficult.
- Difficulty level was low in comparison to the previous year.

- There were 4 sets of Reading comprehension.
- Overall attempt of 16 - 17 questions can be considered as a good attempt.
Decision Making & Analytical Reasoning:
- 18 situational based and 1 set which comprised of 3 questions was based on Mathematical calculations.
- In 40 - 45 minutes, students should have solved about 10 - 12 questions confidently out of the 21 questions.
Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability:
- Difficulty level of this section was moderate to hard.
- 17 questions in Quantitative Ability and 10 questions in Data Interpretation areas.
- Queant questions included Arithmetic, Venn diagram, Trigonometry, Probability and Algebra.

General Knowledge:
- Out of 25 questions, 20 were from Static GK and 10 were from Current Affairs.
- Static GK includes: History, Currency, Invention, Geography, National Capital, Culture, Books & author, Personalities, Important Dates, Film, Science and Business.
- Current Affairs questions includes: Economics, Film & Television and Ecosystem & Diversity.
Essay Writing:
- Topic of the essay was ‘Globalisation and Jingoism always coexist’.
- This topic was found tough by majority of the candidates.
XAT Marking Scheme:
- Number of unattempt question obtained to 12 from 13
- Deduction of 0.25 marks for any wrong answer.
- Deduction of 0.05 for more than 12 unattempts questions.
- No Negative Marking in Paper 2.
Overall analysis:
- Level of difficulty of the paper was easier in comparison to the last year’s paper.
- Overall cutoff is expected to be around 32 - 34.
